TYLER, Texas – Despite brilliant pitching from their starter, the East Texas Baptist University baseball dropped another heartbreaker losing 6-1 in ten innings. The loss puts ETBU at 30-15 overall.

UT-Tyler started the scoring with a sacrifice fly to left by Daniel Williams in the top of the first. ETBU answered in the bottom of the second when after Zach Compton led the inning off with a triple, Casey Combs drove him in on an RBI groundout. For the next seven innings, neither team would plate in a run as Blake Corbin and UTT’s Cason Adams and Cody Brown matched zeroes on the scoreboard. ETBU did have chances to score in the seventh and ninth innings, but the Patriots’ defense would step up making critical plays. For the third game in a row, the game would go extra innings.  It was in the top of the tenth when Patriots would deliver the deciding run on an RBI single by Alex Bishop and a grand slam by Kyle Broussard to make it a 6-1 lead. ETBU went down in order in the bottom of the tenth.

Offensively, Mason Aldredge, Jeremy Bateman, Combs, Compton, Zach Gartner, and Jaxon Rader each had a hit for ETBU. Broussard led the Patriots with four hits and four RBIs for the Patriots.

Corbin started for the Tigers and for 8.2 innings, he pitched brilliantly giving up one run on 12 hits while striking out three. Cody Pierce took the loss going two-thirds of an inning allowing five runs on four hits. Chad Boudreaux also got two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout. Adams was the starter for UTT and he went six innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out four. Brown got the win with three innings allowing two hits and striking out two. Reese Reed finished the game with one inning striking out two.

ETBU had four members on the team named to the All-ASC Tournament Team including Aldredge, Compton, Corbin, and Logan Sprinkle.

ETBU will now wait and see if they made the NCAA Regionals tournament, which will be announced tomorrow at 11:00 PM.
