MARSHALL, Texas – East Texas Baptist University Football Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Backs coach Tarence Calais was selected by the Washington Redskins to participate in the Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship this summer. Calais is the second ETBU coach to be selected in three years, as Brandon Smith was selected by the Cowboys in 2015.
Coach Calais on being selected, “I am beyond blessed to be selected to be in the Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship by the Washington Redskins organization. I am very excited to learn from the best of the best, and see how we measure up with our preparation at East Texas Baptist. I will be able to represent ETBU at the highest level, and bring back with me the knowledge to help ETBU continue to grow and be more successful.”
The NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship is proud to celebrate 30 years of helping outstanding coaches gain exposure to NFL training camps and offseason workout programs. The Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship uses NFL Clubs’ annual training camps and minicamps to give talented minority coaches opportunities to:
- Gain Experience
- Ultimately gain a full-time NFL coaching position
Calais will participate in the Redskins mini-camp over the next few weeks, and potentially in the first week on the Redskins Training Camp starting July 27. Calais will help with drills and sit in in staff meetings with members of the Redskins organization throughout his time there.
Calais will leave for the Redskins mini-camp next Monday.
