MARSHALL, Texas - In just the first year of existence, the East Texas Baptist Univesity hockey team is making great strides in the young season, coming off back-to-back shutout victories over the University of North Texas on October 14-15. ETBU won game one on Friday night by the score of 12-0 and finished the series sweep with a 6-0 win on Saturday afternoon. Nick Bozzuto posted both shutouts on 68 shots for weekend series against the Mean Green.
In Friday night’s game, ETBU jumped out to an early 5-0 in the first period and never looked back, scoring four times in the second and three times in the third period. The Tigers were led by Skyler Spiller, who had four goals and three assists, and Nicholas Salazar, who scored his first hat-trick of the season, while adding an assist. Carson Combs added two goals and two assists.
On Saturday, after a scoreless first period, the Tigers erupted for five goals in the second period, which included two goals each from Spiller and Michael Garvie. ETBU added another goal in the third, coming off the stick of Brandon Davis, for his first career collegiate goal and securing the series win.
With the two victories, ETBU improves their season record to 3-6, with six games left in the fall semester.
The Texas Tigers are back in action next Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29 when they travel to Lafayette, Louisiana to take on LSU.
