MARSHALL, Texas – Looking to make a big step following last season’s quarterfinal finish in the ASC Tournament, the East Texas Baptist University begin their second season under head coach Brandon Curran. With the new schedule, ETBU will play in 10 home games this season at Ornelas gymnasium.
ETBU will begin their season on the road on November 15th at Centenary. They will follow with three home games vs. Sul Ross State (Nov. 17), Concordia (Nov. 30) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (Dec. 2). Following a quick trip to Alpine for one game against Sul Ross State (Dec. 11), ETBU will compete in the Trinity Classic in San Antonio as they will take on Southwestern (Dec. 15) and Trinity (Dec. 16).
ETBU will finish their final home game of 2017 vs. Hendrix College on December 18th. The Tigers will end 2017 with two games on December 29th and 30th at the Schreiner Classic vs. Texas Lutheran and Schreiner University.
Head coach Brandon Curran on their schedule, "I am excited about the challenge that our 2017-2018 schedule brings for our team. We are playing 25 games against quality in-region opponents. Every night we will be able to test ourselves and refine our abilities against great competition. Our nonconference games include a road game at Schreiner University, the 2017 regular season champion of the SCAC, as well as a neutral site game versus 2017 SCAC tournament champion Texas Lutheran University. We also have a non-conference home game versus ASC West member Sul Ross State. We are participating in a holiday tournament before Christmas in San Antonio that I’m looking forward to that will be a really fun experience for our team and an opportunity to grow closer together as a family."
2018 will begin on the road for ETBU as they will travel to play six of seven games as the visiting team. Aside from a home game vs. Texas-Dallas on January 11, ETBU will face Hardin-Simmons (Jan. 4), McMurry (Jan. 6), Howard Payne (Jan. 8), LeTourneau (Jan. 15), Louisiana College (Jan. 18), and Belhaven (Jan. 20) on the road.
Rotating a home and away series vs. Texas-Tyler (Jan. 25, Feb. 3) and Ozarks (Jan. 27, Feb. 1), the Tigers will finish out their regular season with three home games vs. Belhaven (Feb. 8), Louisiana College (Feb. 10), and LeTourneau (Feb. 12) before closing out with a road game at Texas-Dallas (Feb. 17).
Curran on facing ASC competition, "We have a very tough conference schedule which includes road games against many of the best teams in the ASC West plus our traditionally challenging ASC East schedule. Our coaches and players are already working hard to get better for the season and we can’t wait to get started."
