MARSHALL, Texas – After an overtime win for the women’s soccer team at number 10, the number nine team moment for 2016-17 East Texas Baptist University athletic season goes to the men’s basketball team and their offensive explosion scoring 114 points against Ozarks. It was the fifth 100-point game of the year for ETBU as they cruised to a 114-85 win at home in Ornelas Gym for their 14th win of the year.
ETBU started off tremendously as they raced to a 19-6 lead, which included three treys from Dylan Augustine. The largest lead for the Tigers in the first half was 18 points, which they reached twice. Aside from the 62.5% they shot from the field, ETBU’s defense held the Eagles in check with a 39.4% field goal percentage. At the end of the first half, ETBU led 52-34. Momentum continued in the second half as the Tigers tallied 62 points, including 10 three-point field goals. Twice during the second half, the lead ballooned to 35 points.
Overall, ETBU shot 61% from the floor, 50.0% from behind the arc, and 79.2% from the charity stripe. ETBU out-rebounded Ozarks, 37-27, and forced 15 turnovers. ETBU dished out a season high 27 assists in the contest and won the steals battle with eight. Five players reached double figures including Jordan Quillian (16 points), Augustine (15 points, 5-6 3PT), Jordan Gosey (13 points), Landin Brown (12 points), and Tyler Day (12 points).
The win was also special because ETBU clinched the final spot of the ASC Tournament with the win and a loss by Louisiana College against the University of Texas Dallas.
