MARSHALL, Texas – Taking eight of the nine matches, the East Texas Baptist University men’s tennis team gained their first win of the year over Concordia University-Texas. ETBU only fell in no.1 singles taking the match, 8-1.
Connor Mason and Andrew Deutsch won the first match in no.1 doubles, 8-6, in one of the closest matches of the day over Zach Haynie and Leo Marchesi. Cody Highsmith and John Herr then took no.2 doubles, 8-1, against Holt Fields and Adrian Montes. At no.3 doubles, Ty Tarver and Joseph Salinas won 8-4, over Micah Austin and Victor Escalon.
ETBU then won matches in singles two through six. Highsmith won the no.2 singles match, 6-4, 6-3, over Maracheis and then Deutsch defeated Montes, 6-2, 6-0, at no.3 singles. Herr held onto a 6-1, 7-5, win over Haynie at no.4 singles and Salinas then won no.5 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, against Escalon. Rollin Houk finished off the match with a win at no.6 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (10-4), over Issac Glynn.
ETBU will host Centenary on Thursday, March 9, at 3:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Complex.
