MARSHALL, Texas – Looking to bounce back following a tough loss, the East Texas Baptist University men’s tennis team will travel to Clarksville, Arkansas to take on Belhaven and Ozarks this weekend.
In their last matches, ETBU won 7-2 to defeat LeTourneau on Friday. After sweeping three close matches in doubles, ETBU took four of six from the Yellow Jackets to win. Andrew Deutsch (no 3 singles) won 6-2, 6-4 while John Herr (no. 4 singles) surrendered two games in a 6-1, 6-1 triumph. Joseph Salinas won the no. 5 singles 6-3, 6-4 while Ty Tarver fought hard to win the no. 6 singles match 2-6, 6-1, 10-6. ETBU would then suffer a 9-0 defeat to UT-Tyler the following day.
On the win over LeTourneau, ETBU head coach Jeff Bramlett could not have been more proud of his team. “They had a much tougher match than the women did,” said Coach Bramlett. “They ended up sweeping the doubles, but it was in three very close matches. Then we dropped two singles matches and then won the 3-6 singles matches. It was a very big win for our men’s program. I’m very proud of them.”
With the wins, ETBU will travel to Clarksville for two matches against Ozarks and Belhaven. Last season, ETBU lost a home match on March 24 to the Blazers of Belhaven 8-1. Nearly one month later on April 15, ETBU shut out the Eagles of Ozarks with a 9-0 win, which punched a ticket for them to the conference tournament.
ETBU was supposed to have played Belhaven earlier this season, but the match was postponed due to rain. So the Tigers will get a chance to get the match in this season.
Both matches will be this Saturday, April 22nd at 10 AM and 2 PM.
