MARSHALL, Texas -- The defending American Southwest Conference champions picked up where they left off last season as they cruised in game one of the double header against Pacific University, 11-1. In the second game of the double header, ETBU erupted for six runs in the bottom of the second inning, and held off a valiant comeback from Pacific en route to their second win of the day, 11-8. ETBU improved to 2-0 on the season, while Pacific fell to 1-5 in their first week of action.

Game 1

ETBU got on the board early with a sacrifice fly from Jayme Perez to score Lindsey Vasquez. Gabby Gonzales hit a homerun in her first at bat at ETBU to lead off the second inning, giving ETBU a 2-0 advantage.

ETBU would pour on the runs in the third inning, scoring nine runs off three Pacific pitchers. ETBU had nine runs on six hits in the third inning to extend the Tiger lead to 11-0. Pacific scored a run in the fourth to provide the final tally in the game.

Gonzales and Perez led the way for ETBU with two hits apiece. Gonzales, Perez, and Linzie Lewis each had two RBIs in the game. ETBU had nine hits in the contest, and 10 RBIs as a team. Rocki Tello picked up her first victory of the season, moving to 1-0 on the year. Tello threw 5.0 innings, giving up one earned run, and striking out seven Pacific batters while scattering five hits.

Pacific was led by Amanda Machado, who had two of their five hits, and knocked in their lone run of the contest. Morgan Masters picked up the loss in the circle, giving up four runs on five hits in 2.0 innings pitched.

Game 2

Kaitlyn Hollingshead started the scoring for ETBU with a two-RBI single to give ETBU a 2-0 lead. Vasquez singled, and Katy Hill scored on an error from Pacific to extend the ETBU lead to 3-0. Lewis would bring two runs home on a single to left field, and Lacey Lindsey brought home Lewis on an RBI double to bring the ETBU lead to six runs.

Pacific responded with three runs in the top of the third inning. Pacific and ETBU would each tack on one run on the fourth inning to bring the score to 7-4 in favor of the Tigers. Morgan Bookout hit a two run homerun in the fifth inning for Pacific to bring the score within one run. Perez hit her second sacrifice fly of the day to bring home another ETBU run, making the score 8-6.

In the sixth inning, Pacific scored on a Cindy Chan double to make the score 87 ETBU. Hollingshead brought home a run in the bottom half, followed by another two-RBI single from Lewis to cap the scoring off for ETBU. Pacific added their final run on another Bookout homerun.

Jordan Anderson picked up her first win in an ETBU uniform, improving to 1-0 this year. Anderson pitched 4.2 innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on six hits, and struck out five batters. Katelyn Cooper pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs and three hits. Lewis and Hollingshead led ETBU with three hits each, and four and three RBIs respectively. ETBU had 14 hits and 10 RBIs as a team in the win.

Bookout led the way for Pacific with her two homerun day and picked up three RBIs. Cassie Apple picked up the loss in the game, dropping her record to 0-2 this season. Apple pitched 1.2 inning, giving up five runs on five hits.

ETBU will return to action next weekend with their first road trip of the season at Belhaven University. ETBU will play a double header on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m. Saturday’s game will have a noon first pitch time.
