ALPINE, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University powered their way to a double header sweep over Sul Ross State University, belting seven homeruns on the day. ETBU took game one 7-3, and followed that by winning game two 10-2. ETBU improves to 29-6 this season, and to 21-5 in American Southwest Conference action. SRSU falls to 13-23 overall, and 8-18 in ASC play.

GAME 1

ETBU got on the board in the top of the first inning to kick off the scoring. Lindsey Vasquez singled and stole second base before Morgan Arst drove her home with a double. The game would remain 1-0 in favor of ETBU until SRSU hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third inning to give the Lobos a 2-1 lead. SRSU used a leadoff homerun in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 3-1.

The ETBU bats would start to heat up in the top of the sixth inning when Gabby Gonzales tied the game with a two-run homerun. Linzie Lewis led off the top of the seventh inning with a solo homerun to give ETBU a 4-3 lead. Lacey Lindsey followed suit two batters later with her own two-run homerun, giving ETBU a 6-3 lead. Gabby Gonzales launched her second homerun in as many innings to cap off the scoring, giving ETBU a 7-3 win.

Lindsey led the Tiger offense with three hits on the day, followed by Gonzales and Vasquez with two hits each. Arst, Lewis, Jayme Perez, and Kaitlyn Hollingshead each had one hit in the contest. Gonzales led the team with three RBI and Lindsey had two RBI. McKayla Hendrix earned the win in relief, throwing 4.0 innings and allowing just one hit to pick up her second win of the season.

Zuriah Leyva and Alejandra Pasillas each had two hits for SRSU. Pasillas and Leyva hit the two homeruns for SRSU, led by Pasillas with the two-run homerun. Jackie Gonzales was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings pitched to drop her record to 7-14 this season.

GAME 2

Perez launched a solo homerun to lead off the top of the second inning to give ETBU an early 1-0 lead. Shelby Irlbeck continued the homerun streak with a grand slam later in the frame to extend the lead to 5-0. After batting around, Perez hit her second homerun of the inning, a three-run homerun to push the Tiger lead to 8-0. SRSU scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a Destanie Hernandez RBI double and Leyva RBI groundout. Vasquez scored on a stolen base attempt to second to give ETBU a 9-2 lead, followed by an RBI single from Lindsey to cap off the scoring 10-2.

Perez and Lewis each had two hits to pace ETBU offensively. Both of Perez’s hits were homeruns in the second inning. Lindsey, Hollingshead, Hill, and Irlbeck each added one hit each. Irlbeck’s grand slam was her first homerun of the season. Vasquez stole five bases on the day to add to her career lead.

Jordan Anderson picked up her 12th win of the season to move to 12-2 overall. Anderson pitched all five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, and struck out four batters.

Hernandez, Losoya, and Raimondi each had one hit for SRSU in game two of the double header. Bailey Garrett was given the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on six hits in 1.2 innings pitched to drop to 5-8 overall this season.

ETBU and SRSU will conclude their series with an 11:00 a.m. first pitch.
