BELTON, Texas – It was a good day for the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team as they stayed alive in the American Southwest Conference Tournament with two huge wins over Howard Payne University (25-18, 25-16, 20-25, 20-25, and 15-10) and Hardin-Simmons University (16-25, 25-23, 26-24, and 25-13). ETBU eliminated both Howard Payne and Hardin-Simmons from the ASC Tournament. HPU ends the season 11-16 and HSU ends their season at 16-13.

ETBU improves to 13-13 with their two wins today over ASC West Division opponents. ETBU stopped a would-be comeback from Howard Payne as they won the five set thriller to advance them further in the tournament. After falling behind early to HSU, ETBU rallied to win the next three sets to close out the second day of the ASC Tournament.

In the first match, HPU was led by Shelbie Harry with 16 kills, Zhartezia Bradley had 15 kills, and Kailey Doering had 12 kills. Cheyanne Lovelady finished with a match high 51 assists. Analisa Anzaldua led with 26 digs, Callie Molloy had 20 digs, Briana Williams had 15 digs, and Lovelady had 12 digs. HPU hit .157 as a team in the contest and had 19 blocks as a team.

ETBU was led offensively by Mallory Sanders and Britni Mosher who each had 20 kills. Allison Sevening finished with 10 kills of her own. Kayla Green and Elyse Shaw finished with 34 assists and 15 assists respectively. Morgan Rupp had 25 digs, Lauren Jarrell had 21 digs, Sanders had 19 digs, Shaw added 12 digs, and Green rounds out ETBU with 10 digs. ETBU hit .184 as a team and had 14 blocks as a team.

In the match, Green moved into 9th place all-time in career assists with 667 in her four year career.

Hardin-Simmons was led offensively in the second match of the day for both team by Grace Schulz with 17 kills and Morgan Prince with 10 kills. Ashley Pierce led HSU with 39 assists. Lauren Wish had 22 digs to lead the Cowgirls, Mary Johnson had 12 digs, and Pierce had 10 digs. HSU hit .104 as a team and had 12 blocks as a team.

East Texas Baptist was led by Sanders with 16 kills. Sevening and Mosher added nine kills each. Green had 22 assists and Shaw pitched in 15 assists of her own. Sanders had 16 digs, and Rupp and Shaw each had 12 digs in the match. ETBU hit .205 as a team and added 15 blocks.

Sanders moves into 4th place all-time in ETBU history with 1,440 kills. Rupp moves into a tie for 11th place in ETBU history with 86 career service aces, and also to 9th place in career digs with 976.

ETBU will move on to the ASC Semi-finals against Texas Dallas. Texas Dallas is coming off of their second loss of the season after losing in five sets to Mary Hardin-Baylor. The match will be an elimination game and will be the fourth meeting of the season between UTD and ETBU. The match will be played at 11:00 a.m. at the Mayborn Campus Center.
