MARSHALL, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University women’s basketball team saw an early lead slip away as they fell in tough fashion to the University of the Ozarks, 75-63. ETBU led at the half, 35-30, but the Ozarks defense shut down the fast paced offense from the first half.

ETBU was led by Hannah Holt in the first quarter, scoring 16 of the teams 23 points, for a 23-13 lead after the first frame. ETBU led by as many as 14, 27-13, midway through the second quarter. Ozarks cut the lead down to five points, 35-50, at the break thanks to a Delanei Stephens three pointer at the buzzer.

Ozarks used a quick 9-0 run in the third quarter to grab the lead, but ETBU would respond and take the lead back. Ozarks managed to grab the lead 55-52 at the end of the third quarter. ETBU would bring the score within three points later in the fourth quarter, but could not finish the comeback as Ozarks pulled away late.  

Holt led the way for ETBU with 24 points on 9-of-20 shooting. Brittney Jones was also in double figures as she scored 10 points. Holt and Amanda Wilson each grabbed seven rebounds and Sade’ Murrell added six. ETBU had 18 assists as a team.

ETBU shot 35.2% from the floor, 15.4% from behind the arc, and 64.3% from the free throw line. ETBU grabbed 43 rebounds with 16 of them being offensive. ETBU led the game with 18 assists and nine steals.

Ozarks was led by Rose Robinson with 18 points. Stephens had 17 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Diamond Goodwyn also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ozarks shot 42% from the floor in the contest, and forced 18 turnovers.

ETBU will return to action with ‘Senior Day’ on Saturday against University of Texas at Dallas at 1:00 p.m. This will be the final home game of the year for ETBU.
