MARSHALL, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University women’s basketball team will hit the road for their final game of the season on Thursday, as they travel to Jackson, Mississippi to take on Belhaven University. ETBU enters their final game 3-21 on the year, and will miss out on the American Southwest Conference Tournament next week. Belhaven enters with a 12-11 overall record, and host ETBU and Louisiana College this weekend.
Hannah Holt has put together an impressive freshman campaign, leading ETBU in scoring all season long. Holt is currently averaging 14.8 points per game, and leads the team in assists (71) and steals (56), along with averaging 4.3 rebounds per game. Sade’ Murrell and Brittney Jones have been impressive this year as well, with Murrell averaging 8.0 points per game and having several double figure rebounding games this season. Jones has been a lockdown defender all season long, usually picking up the oppositions leading scorer, and making it a tough day all game long.
ETBU enters their final game averaging 63.2 points per game, and shooting 37% from the floor. ETBU is shooting 23.3% from behind the arc and 64% from the free throw line. ETBU is averaging just under 40 rebounds per game at 39.9 ETBU needs seven more assists to reach 300 this season, and six more three pointers to reach 100.
Belhaven will not count as an ASC match, but will count starting next season. Belhaven defeated ETBU earlier this season in Marshall, with a 67-54 victory. Sierra Pittman (13.9 PPG), Candler Gregory (11.4 PPG), and Samara Dingiswayo (10.3 PPG) each average double figures in scoring. Vamikka Smith is among the conference leaders with 8.6 rebounds per game.
The game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. in Heidelberg Gymnasium on the campus of Belhaven.
