JACKSON, Mississippi – The East Texas Baptist University women’s basketball led for most of the game, but could not hold on as they fell on the road in their season finale to Belhaven University, 77-68. Belhaven Improves to 13-11 and ETBU closes out their season with a 3-22 record.
ETBU got out to a fast start, knocking down 52% of their shots en route to a 25-13 lead after the first quarter. Belhaven would cut into the lead, but ETBU ultimately held on for a 39-31 lead going into the break at halftime. ETBU held off a fast start from Belhaven in the third quarter, clinging on to a one-point lead at the end of three frames 53-52. ETBU would lead by as many as four points in the fourth quarter, but hot shooting in the final quarter put Belhaven in the lead.
Sade’ Murrell led ETBU with 18 points, Hannah Holt added 17 points, and Lauren Lee had 14 points in the loss. Murrell had nine rebounds, Lee had eight rebounds, and Holt and Brittney Jones each had seven rebounds. Jones had a game-high six assists, and ETBU outrebounded Belhaven 49-37 in the game.
ETBU shot 33.8% from the floor as a team, and shot 80% (12-15) from the free throw line. ETBU had a game-high 18 assists. Holt finishes with a team-high 75 steals for the season after finishing with a game-high four steals in the game.
Ke’Asia Gray and Samara Dingiswayo each had 17 points, and Candler Gregory added 13 points. Vamikka Smith had a game-high 11 rebounds in the win. Belhaven shot 41.3% from the floor, and made 21 free throws to contribute to the win.
ETBU closes out their season with a 3-22 record, and caps off the final game for Delia Hopkins and Kaitlyn Packett. Packett finishes her career with 49 career wins as a Tiger, and made one appearance in the American Southwest Conference Tournament.
