MARSHALL, Texas – It’s that time of year again where we countdown the Top 10 Team Moments for the 2016-17 school year. Our number ten moment comes from the East Texas Baptist University women’s soccer team and their clutch overtime win against rival LeTourneau.
Facing off against the Yellow Jackets, ETBU trailed 1-0 after on a goal by Rebekah Stevenson in the 31st minute. Over the next fifty-one minutes, neither team was unable to get anything offensively until Amber Campbell equalized thanks to a corner kick from Erin Miller to make it 1-1. The game went into overtime, where prior to that, ETBU had only managed to secure ties in overtime play. This time, ETBU would have no trouble as two minutes into the session; Miller fired a shot from the top of the box to give ETBU their first ASC win on the season. Overall, ETBU outshot LETU nine to seven while both teams had five shots on net.
Head coach Erik Solberg was thrilled about his team’s play in the final stretch of the game. “We showed a ton of character to come back from being a goal down, to get an equalizer in the last ten minutes, and then finish the job in overtime,” said Coach Solberg. “We showed a ton of resolve and resilience throughout the match, and got the result we deserved. It is especially meaningful to get our first conference win on the road at LeTourneau. I could not be happier.”
