MARSHALL, Texas – For the third straight match, the East Texas Baptist University women’s tennis team swept their opponent, 9-0, as they shut out Concordia University-Texas to improve to 6-1 on the year. The win is their sixth in a row after starting the season off 0-1.
ETBU started off with a 3-0 lead in doubles as Kate Bramlett and Kaleigh Smith won 8-1 at no.1 over Lelya Martinez and Justus Aarhus. Tiffany Stankiewicz and Elisa Kendall took the no.2 doubles match, 8-3, over Serena Segel and Juliette Garza which was followed by an 8-3 win at no.3 by Jabree McClaine and Ashley Schenck.
In singles play, all six players cruised to victories. Bramlett took the no.1 match, 6-4, 6-2, over Aarhus. Stankiewicz won no.2 singles over Martinez, 6-2, 6-2, while Kendall won no.3 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Smith then won the no.4 match, 6-1, 6-0, over Kempf, and Mullika Seekhieo held onto a 6-3, 6-3 win in no.5 singles. Kellie Cawthon finished up the match with a 6-2, 6-1, win at no.6 over Segel.
ETBU will host Centenary College on Thursday, March 9, at 3:00 p.m.
