MARSHALL, Texas – As they get closer in preparation for their conference tournament appearance, the East Texas Baptist University women’s tennis team will have one last road trip as they will travel to Clarksville, Arkansas for not one, but two matches. ETBU will start off with Ozarks first before making up their postponed match with Belhaven that same day.
Two weekends ago, ETBU continued their ASC East scheduling as they took on LeTourneau and UT-Tyler. Against the Yellow Jackets on Friday, ETBU easily won 9-0 sweeping every match. Kate Bramlett picked up a milestone by winning her 100th career match at ETBU in both singles and doubles combined. Although Bramlett’s match would end up being the closest at no. 1 singles, the other Lady Tigers held LeTourneau to six game wins.
The following day, ETBU took on a tough UT-Tyler team and for the second year in a row, they lost 5-4. ETBU trailed 2-1 after doubles following a win by Bramlett and Kaleigh Smith at no. 1 doubles 8-4 before winning the nos. 3-5 singles matches. Elisa Kendall took the no.3 match, 6-4, 6-2, and then Smith won 6-2, 6-2, at no.4. Mullika Seekhieo took a tiebreaking match, 3-6, 6-3, 9-0, for the fourth point.
ETBU will turn their attention to Ozarks and Belhaven. Last season against Ozarks, ETBU easily swept the matches with a 9-0 victory. However, head coach Jeff Bramlett is not counting a simple cakewalk.
“Ozarks is going to be another tough match,” said Coach Bramlett. “Last year on the women’s side, I think we beat them 9-0. I know they’ve improved on the women’s side. So we’ll probably be getting a stronger test.”
ETBU will also be facing off against Belhaven trying to make up their previous rained out match. Last season, ETBU fell 5-4 on their home court on March 24. Bramlett and Jabree McClaine would get doubles victories with their partners while Seekhieo was one of two players to pick up a singles match.
Both matches will be on Saturday with ETBU facing Ozarks at 11:00 AM and Belhaven at 2:00 PM.
