MARSHALL, Texas – A dream came true for East Texas Baptist University senior Ashleigh Rondon this week as she represented her country playing for the Dominican Republic Women’s Soccer National Team. She was selected to play in two friendly matches for her home country.

This opportunity seems unreal. It truly is a dream come true. It’s been a hard last couple weeks for me because I recently lost my grandmother so good news was well needed. I’m not only excited to be able to represent my country but I can’t think of a better way to honor my grandmother than by playing for her home country. I am dedicating this experience to her.

Excited to share that I have been given the opportunity to represent my country playing the sport that I love. It’s a dream come true and I’m so thankful for all the people who helped me get to this point! Couldn’t have done it alone! ???????? https://t.co/3uKgq2iwqG

ASHLEIGH RONDON

Rondon is from Carrolton, Texas, and went to Creekview HS. Her career at ETBU has been one to remember as she has scored 28 goals, named All-ASC in her first three years (first team, second team, twice) and was the 2017 ASC Freshman of the Year. She has been the ASC Player of the Week three times, is an ASC All-Academic team member, and made the 2019 USC West Region All-Scholar team.

As for ETBU, this school taught me how to be a light for Christ while playing the sport I love and I want to share that through the way I play over there,” says Rondon. “I’ve become a better soccer player because of it and I hope to make all my coaches and teammates (past and present) proud because they have all helped get me where I am today.”

We are super excited for Ashleigh to have this opportunity to represent the Dominican Republic on the Women’s Senior National Team. While we will miss her here on campus and at training, this is an opportunity we would not have wanted her to pass on. Ashleigh is very deserving of this opportunity. She has been a threat in the ASC and a leading goal scorer on our team for the past three seasons! I can’t wait to watch her play in the international setting and make memories that she will have forever. Best of luck to the Dominican Republic in these friendlies. We will be cheering you on.
