The East Texas Baptist University Tiger Softball Team departed Texas for Australia, this past Friday evening, as a part of the Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME). This mission is the 14th trip of the ETBU Athletic Department TAME initiative and second mission trip for ETBU Tiger Softball, after the Tigers traveled to Costa Rica in December 2016.
The group consisting of 41, including softball student-athletes, coaches, and staff left Houston on Friday, December 9, and finally arrived in Sydney, Australia on Monday afternoon, December 12, (Sunday evening Texas/CST time). After a snow storm in the United Kingdom routed their flight to Paris, France for fueling and weather clearance, the team arrived in Manchester, but had their connecting flight delayed until the next morning. The group spent about 10 hours in the Manchester airport before boarding just after midnight Sunday morning and flying 13 hours to Singapore. Once in Singapore, the TAME mission group had a two-hour wait before the final leg of the flight, an eight-hour flight to Sydney. The team was so happy make it to the hotel for some much needed rest and showers, before having dinner Monday night in Sydney.
They TAME group will aboard another flight on Tuesday evening for a short two-hour flight to Adelaide for ministry work and competition at the Softball Australia 23 and under softball tournament, which starts on Wednesday.
