TAME | Travel Day | ETBU Softball in Australia

The East Texas Baptist University Tiger Softball Team departed Texas for Australia, this past Friday evening, as a part of the Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME). This mission is the 14th trip of the ETBU Athletic Department TAME initiative and second mission trip for ETBU Tiger Softball, after the Tigers traveled to Costa Rica in December 2016.

The group consisting of 41, including softball student-athletes, coaches, and staff left Houston on Friday, December 9, and finally arrived in Sydney, Australia on Monday afternoon, December 12, (Sunday evening Texas/CST time). After a snow storm in the United Kingdom routed their flight to Paris, France for fueling and weather clearance, the team arrived in Manchester, but had their connecting flight delayed until the next morning. The group spent about 10 hours in the Manchester airport before boarding just after midnight Sunday morning and flying 13 hours to Singapore. Once in Singapore, the TAME mission group had a two-hour wait before the final leg of the flight, an eight-hour flight to Sydney. The team was so happy make it to the hotel for some much needed rest and showers, before having dinner Monday night in Sydney.

They TAME group will aboard another flight on Tuesday evening for a short two-hour flight to Adelaide for ministry work and competition at the Softball Australia 23 and under softball tournament, which starts on Wednesday.

After traveling and only spending time in the airport or an airplane for the past 48 plus hours, the team has been nothing short of impressive. All of the players have exhibited great attitudes and been in good spirits despite the travel delays and exhaustion. I am excited to be able to watch the team compete and use their God-given talents and abilities to share their faith in Jesus with the people of Australia this week. We appreciate everyone’s support that helped make this trip possible, both financially and prayerfully. Please continue to keep us in your prayers for opportunities to share the Gospel.

Can you imagine the fatigue and frustration these mission travelers are experiencing?! Please pray for opportunities to relax with some comfort, replenish their energy, and refuel for the great Kingdom work ahead as they serve and share in the name of Christ Jesus. Ask the Lord to enable the group to seek Him, His peace and provision in the midst of their challenging journey. Please intercede for Ryan Erwin and Head Softball Coach Janae’ Shirley as they lead this TAME trip. Pray for Dr. Lisa Seeley, ETBU Director of Global Education along with a couple of more Tiger student-athletes who are traveling today to connect with the team in Australia following their participation in this past Saturday’s ETBU December graduation services.

Today is the day we arrived in Sydney, Australia! After all the traveling we’ve had these past few days, it is such a blessing to have made it with everyone and everything. After getting off the plane and getting onto the bus we made our way to our hotel for the night. During the bus ride it was hard not to look around and take in the sights of the new country. We had some amazing food from the hotel, which was enjoyed with jokes and conversations about our travels. The girls and I are so excited to see what this mission trip holds for us. I am most excited to experience everything the culture has to offer, serve others, and spread the word of our Lord.
