The ETBU Softball Tiger Softball team started the second day of the Under 23 tournament taking on Western Australia (WA) as a part of the Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME) trip.
WA took an early 1-0 in the top of the first, but the Tigers rebounded with one run in the bottom half of the inning. Tristen Maddox tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a RBI double from Delanie Loya.
WA added two runs in the top of the third inning, taking a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ellie Watkins and Loya singled to start the inning. Mallory Pyle loaded the bases with a bunt single and Anahi Ramirez followed with a two RBI double to tie the game. Pyle scored on a wild pitch and Maddox added a two RBI double, giving ETBU the 6-3 lead.
Toni Tamborello picked up the win for the Tigers, pitching three innings without allowing a run.
In the afternoon game, ETBU took on Queensland, who is the reigning champion of the tournament. Queensland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Tigers responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring nine runs and sending 12 batters to the plate in the inning. Sydney Green lead off the inning with a single, Hannah A. Kelley walked, and Emma Overla singled to load the bases. Braidee Glenn and Braelyn Buchanan both walked to score a run and Maddox added a RBI single. Loya hit a three RBI triple and Tauryn Cummings followed with a RBI single. Croft reached on a single and Kelley knocked in the final two runs of the inning with a double over the center fielder, making the score 9-1.
Queensland added a run in the fourth, but the Tigers held on for the 9-2 run rule victory. Hannah R. Kelley picked up the win in the circle, pitching three innings and only allowing an unearned run.
ETBU plays again on Friday at 10:00 AM against New South Wales and at 3:00 PM against Australian Capital Territory, both Adelaide time.
