TAME | SB | Australia Recap #4

The ETBU Tiger Softball Team had a busy Friday as a part of their Tiger Athletic Mission Experience trip to Australia.  They began their day with the first game of the day at 10 AM against New South Wales (NSW).

In the top of the first, NSW scored two runs on a hit, error and sacrifice fly, but ETBU responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Tristan Maddox singles and scored in a RBI double by Sydney Green, making the score 2-1.

NSW added two more runs in the top of the second, but once again ETBU responded. Marisela Gil tripled to start the inning and scored on a Ellie Watkins RBI single. Braelyn Buchanan reached on an infield single and Watkins scored on a RBI single from Maddox.

In the top of the third, NSW scored one run on two errors. The Tigers tied the game at 5 in the bottom half of the inning after Gil walked and Watkins singled to right. Denver Starkes was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Evan Garcia followed with a two RBI single.

ETBU took their first lead in the bottom of the fifth, after Watkins tripled down the left field line and scored on a throwing error. Starkes reached on an infield single and moved to second on a passed ball and scored on an error off the bat of Garcia. Jalen Perez added a RBI triple and Green had a RBI single to make the score 9-5 after five innings, which would be the final.

In the second game on Friday, ETBU took on Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and improved to 5-0 in the tournament, with a 2-0 victory. The Tigers did all their scoring in the first inning. Emma Overla walked to start the inning and Sydney Green reached on a base hit bunt. Both runners scored on a two RBI single from Tauryn Cummings, giving the Tigers an early 2-0 lead, which was enough to secure the win.

The Tigers play their sixth and final game on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 PM (8PM on Friday in Texas) against Victoria.

After the games on Friday, the team loaded up and headed to Lobethal, a small town outside Adelaide, for their annual Christmas celebration, which included a Christmas market, food vendors, Christmas lights and a live nativity scene in partnership with the Lobethal Lutheran Church.

The Softball team had the opportunity to serve and work several of the booths in the market throughout the evening and concluded the night singing Christmas carols in the choir as a part of the Christmas story with several members from Hills Baptist Church.

We are just capping off day six here in Australia and it has been so full of blessings. The opportunity to play against the Australian National teams has been so amazing in that I get to share my love of the game with others and being able to spread the Lord’s Word in Australia has not only benefited those around me, but I feel it has also brought me closer to God. This trip has shown me so many new ways to be a light to others, and I am truly grateful for that.

This trip to Australia has been amazing and I’m so thankful for this opportunity to come and serve the Lord faithfully alongside my teammates. Today we went the beautiful town of Lobethal where we got to serve their community. I served food to the locals and got to meet and share the Love of God with the people I was working with. We also got to share the Christmas story through caroling at a live nativity scene. It was a wonderful experience and I hope we all brought as much joy to the people we served as they did to us.
Ellie Watkins | Fr. | Lindale, Texas
