TAME | MS | Portugal Recap #1

The East Texas Baptist University Men’s Soccer team departed Texas on Friday, March 10 for an eight day trip to Spain and Portugal. The trip is the 15th as a part of the Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME) at ETBU.

The Tigers are partnering with the International Sports Federation (ISF) and will serve alongside the International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries in Madrid, Spain and will work directly with Cru in Lisbon, Portugal.

After an overnight flight, the team arrived in Madrid on Saturday afternoon and traveled via the metro to the hostel near downtown. After a short orientation with the IMB missionaries, the team had a quick dinner and headed back to the hostel for the evening.

On Sunday morning, the team split into two groups for worship. One group attended Nueva Esperanza Church and the second group went to Comunidad Moncloa, which are both church plants located in Madrid.

The group that attended the smaller church plant, Esperanza Church, enjoyed worship, which was lead by ETBU alum Lori Seagraves.  The church also observed the Lord’s supper before the teams reunited for lunch at a local restaurant.

On Sunday, we woke up and went down to breakfast at our hostel. We enjoyed classic eggs, bread, and fruit, with orange juice to start the day before getting ready for church services. It began at 11:45AM and it ended around 1:00 PM. It was a great message today learning about the importance and power of prayer. After that we had lunch at a Mediterranean restaurant in El Centro and I had a chicken kebab sandwich and fries. After lunch, we headed to the most historical soccer stadium in history, the Santiago Bernabéu, which is the stadium Real Madrid calls home. We were able to take a tour of the facility and had the opportunity to walk around a stadium with great history. Many of us spent some time in the official store and purchased souvenirs. We then took the metro to get ready for dinner at 9:00 PM and finished dinner around 11:00 PM before taking the metro back to end the day.
