Daily Blog: Jayme Perez (Sunday)

Today we had the opportunity to go to Abundant Life, a local mega church, which averages around 5,000 people weekly for worship. There was a language barrier, however we felt God's love through the people of the church. We were welcomed with open arms as the pastor of the church acknowledged and welcomed us to Costa Rica. It's crazy to see how similar this church was to my home church. We sang, gave an offering, then the pastor gave a sermon.

After church we came back to YWAM and served around the base. We divided into smaller groups and tackled the different tasks that YWAM had for us to do. These tasks included washing vans, raking leavings and bamboo shavings off the ground, folding linens, mopping floors, organized shingles and helped prepare dinner. In these few hours we came together as a group, accomplished our tasks and made some life long memories with our teammates.

Once all finished were tasks, we got ready for dinner and our religion Christian Devotional Classics class taught by Dr. Bryant. Tonight in class we learned about Christ In Community. I learned that God has put his Word into the mouth of others so that it may be communicated to us. When somebody is struck by the Word, they should share that insight with others and this is important for our team. In order to create a great community within our team, we need to constantly be speaking the Word with each other. We also gave words of encouragement towards one another to help us realize that others see what we do and we should not have to brag about it for ourselves, which ties into our class from yesterday.

One of my favorite parts of today is in the small amount of down time we have had, everyone has been drawn to playing card games like Monopoly Deal, Phase 10 and Uno. These simple card games has been a fun and is a competitive way to create great memories with my teammates.

Monday will consist of an early morning with a 6:30 breakfast and then worship at the YWAM base, followed by service at a local school and a clinic in the afternoon.
