What an incredible day!
We started today with worship at the base led by some of the YWAM staff. It was a moving worship time full of songs in Spanish and English, but regardless of the language, voices and hands were held high, worshipping our Savior. It was an amazing time getting to talk and pray with the workers on the base from all over the world, and worship in song together.
After worship, we jumped on the bus and headed out to Los Cuadrados, a local school for children. When we arrived we split up into groups with tasks of painting two classrooms, cleaning the church, packing goody-bags for the children, and decorating for their graduation. It was a long day spent entirely on our feet, hard at work but the spirits were high and everyone had a great attitude and were willing to work hard for need they had. Today we got the opportunity to see what we talked about in our class discussion last night, about growing our Christian community, to give back and share the love of God through our works. Â
When we first arrived to Los Cuadrados we were informed by the pastor that it was not the safest area and that it was at times hard to work there, but he assured us that we were very safe and that we were surrounded by individuals that were very welcoming and appreciative of our help.
When all the jobs were done, we got to spend time with the children in their classrooms. Their joy was infectious, and we all got back on the bus with smiles and pictures with the children we encountered, not wanting to leave. We could see that the little bit of time we spent playing with them made their day, but what they did not know was how much it made ours. The children spoke Spanish, so the language barrier was a challenge at times but it didn't stop us from being able to show love and attention to those children by spending time playing games with them throughout the afternoon.  Despite our afternoon softball clinic being canceled because of rain, we were able to spend more time at the school with the children.Â
We ended our day with a little adventure to the nearest Starbucks and Dairy Queen, a treat after the day's work. It was a great time of bonding over coffee and blizzards, and a pit stop to dance to "I Got This Feeling". We are so blessed and thankful for the experiences we had today getting to help at the school and spend time loving on the children. Every day we spend here in Costa Rica we are growing spiritually as a team and as individuals while getting to share that with others in the community.
Tuesday will consist of Bible distribution in the morning followed by our first game tomorrow evening against the Costa Rican National team.
Please pray that we continue to have open hearts and open minds to helping others and sharing the word of God!
