TAME | HKY | Sweden - Recap #6

Sunday’s recap for the ETBU Hockey team’s TAME trip to Sweden is provided by Senior Ronnie Bregante and Junior Thomas Desjardsins.

On this last day of our mission trip in Sweden, we started off by waking up at our usual time to head to the Arken Church. We arrived at the church and had the usual bread, ham, and cheese breakfast, as well as porridge, which tasted just like oatmeal. We then attended church at Arken, which was certainly a different experience for some of the guys. Our group leaders led the prayer in Swedish, following a prayer led by Dominic Desjardins.

The morning church service was a Christmas concert and play, where they explained how Jesus was the biggest gift. Of course the whole show was in Swedish and occasionally in English. The church is sponsoring and helping care for about 25 children from Ukraine and they sang a song during the service. It was wonderful watching all of these different countries try and sing these Christmas songs in English and in their own first language.

After a tasty lunch, we headed out into Varnamo, where we played the great game of floorball, which is not common in the United States but more popular in European countries.  After a long day and week of community service, the team enjoyed playing in a floorball tournament for about four hours with several youth from the community.  Also Trevor Begley and Fisher Naumann shared their testimony with the group, which was really heartwarming hearing about their story and how they came to Jesus Christ. After the tournament, we finished up at the church and packed all of our hockey bags and luggage and had a great, emotional time of debriefing and review of the week with the team and the trip leaders.

To conclude, this trip really brought all of our hockey team and staff together, as there were tears shed and players coming to Christ.  It was certainly an experience having the Lord in our presence and it gave me chills knowing that the Lord was with us.  He certainly changed my life, as well as other lives on our team. This mission trip has created many different memories, from cold plunges and saunas, to helping serve coffee and cookies and Bibles to the locals in Varnamo, giving chocolate out to the apartment residents, having the opportunity to play two hockey games, and meeting the players from the other team, sharing pizza and laughs. This was a successful trip and it was great to see God’s work being done to all of the wonderful people around me,” Bregante said.

TAME | 2024 | Hockey in Sweden

Today was our last day in Värnamo. We started the day by attending a church service at the Arken Church, who hosted us during the week. After the morning service we had lunch and followed up with a nice walk to an indoor floorball arena. At the arena we played a tournament with a few kids from Värnamo and Fisher Naumann and Trevor Begley shared their testimony with the group. We finished the day with dinner and a Swedish tradition of sitting in a sauna and jumping straight into a frozen pond for an ice bath.
DOMINICK DESJARDSINS | SENIOR

Going through all of the events today it was really nice to see how a different country and culture go through a service and their different traditions like the ice baths in the middle of winter. Today and this last week overall has been an amazing experience and it was amazing to see how God moves outside the US,” Desjardins said.
