TAME | BB | Dominican Republic - Recap 1

The ETBU Baseball team departed Texas for the Dominican Republic on Sunday morning as a part of ETBU’s Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME). This is the 17th trip as a part of the ETBU Athletic Department TAME initiative and second for Tiger Baseball, after the Tigers traveled to the Dominican Republic Rica in 2017.  ETBU is partnering with Dominican Baseball Camp, as they will conduct free youth baseball clinics, conduct service in the local communities, various ministry activities, and play five games.

As we started the day off early this morning in the airport, we knew it was going to be a long day but a day that was worth it. As soon as we arrived in the DR we were greeted with a staff that acted like they already knew us and took us in with open arms as if we were family.

Wagner continues, “As soon as we arrived at the resort, we set out all of the clothing, shoes, bats, and backpacks that we were donating and then got settled into our rooms. Before dinner the team set out on a little expedition to the beach and this is where we were greeted by the community and got to see a whole different perspective and culture of the country. Locals would stop and engage with the team, asking us to buy their items or just to crack some jokes before dinner.”

“Once we ate dinner, it was time to visit a local church service. With heavy eyes and open hearts, the one thing stuck out to us the most was the pure happiness and joyfulness that these people had and it was an energy that fed into us.”

The Lord was moving in different ways than we were used to seeing, but no matter their surroundings, no matter who was around them, one thing never seemed to change, and that was the happiness they expressed.

He finishes with, "We are looking forward to the upcoming days here in the DR and looking to make memories that will not only impact ourselves as a team but as well as those in the local community for Christ.”
