"Today was the final day of the Men’s Soccer TAME trip to Spain and Portugal over the past week.
It began with an early morning wake up call for the men and included almost 24 hours of total travel. We started off with a flight from Lisbon to Madrid, a few hours for an airport layover, and then finally the flight home before getting picked up and riding back to campus.
As I look back on the week, it’s easy to remember the photos, the world famous futbol (aka soccer) stadiums, the food, and a chance to see and experience a new culture or style of life that the majority of our group, including myself, have never done.
However, it is the other moments that we hope impacted the most. The opportunities to join in on a Sunday worship with other believers in another language, or meet college students and converse about their journeys and relationships with the Lord, or how they feel about their lives. The chance to prayer walk around communities in Madrid and pray over individuals, bookstores, markets, and future relationships to be made with Him. We handed out flyers and information for new church plants about small groups, Father’s Day, and Easter celebrations and if only a few join the next Church service or meet with our IMB contacts and local missionaries, then it was well worth the time spent.
Quite possibly the most fun day and best memories came when our team had the opportunity to love and laugh with a group of underprivileged youth from elementary to teens, and use the game of soccer to connect and build relationships! It’s truly amazing what a little time of attention meant to those young people and to watch them sing, chant, take selfies, and run along side our bus as we departed is what it’s all about! - 1 Peter 4:10
It has truly been a great week full of memories, and we are all thankful for everyone that has supported us to make this trip a possibility,” Head Men’s Soccer Head Coach Chad Cox said.
