Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Trailing by a 1-0 margin after 75 completed minutes of play, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team scored twice during the closing 15 minutes in regulation to top Louisiana College, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Cornish Field. The victory moves ETBU to 2-9 overall and 2-2 within American Southwest Conference match play. Louisiana College goes to 1-11 this season and 0-5 in ASC competition.
Deep into the 76th minute, Brett Forbus served a ball from the near-side corner and teammate Danilo Martins finished with a kick into the back of the net to tie match at a goal apiece. Later on during the 88th minute, Pablo Jaimes sent a corner kick from the far side into the Louisiana College box, and teammate Pedro Guerra headed in the ball for what proved to be the decisive goal in the match.
Earlier on during the run of play, Louisiana College struck first in the 16th minute. Charging upfield toward the ETBU goal, Daniel Delva met sliding ETBU goalkeeper Juan Perales. The ball bounced away out of Perales' grasp, and Delva continued rushing ahead and kicked in the ball to put Louisiana College in the lead, 1-0.
In all, ETBU fired off 35 shots, including 13 shots on-goal. Louisiana College goalkeeper Nathan Gautreaux made 11 saves.
ETBU is on the road for the next match at 7 p.m. on Thursday at No. 13-ranked Texas Dallas.
