Box Score 2 TYLER, Texas - For the seventh- and eighth-consecutive match, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team won, this time via 3-0 sweeps against McMurry University and later Sul Ross State University on Friday afternoom. Competing in a pair of neutral-site matches as part of the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament hosted by University of Texas-Tyler, ETBU (19-3, 7-2 ASC) defeated McMurry by set scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-17, and then topped Sul Ross State, 25-10, 25-19, 25-14.
To cap a 2-0 day, ETBU posted a .343 team attacking percentage, and Sul Ross State had exactly a .000 attack rate. Mallory Sanders had a match-best 15 kills and also contributed 10 digs. Reighanna Guzman led all players with 21 digs to go along with eight digs. Adaeze Elonu had 11 kills and four total blocks, while Hannah Jones chipped in five assists as well as a match-leading 17 digs.
Earlier in the afternoon, ETBU faced McMurry. The opening set featured a combined 14 attack errors by the teams, including 10 by McMurry. In set one alone, Sanders had five kills, while Elonu contributed four. Paige Miller sealed ETBU's opening-set victory with the clinching kill on a pass from teammate Guzman.
Set two saw ETBU's team attacking percentage drop to a .121 rate, but McMurry hit .054 with yet another attack errors. Sanders secured ETBU's second-set with a kill on another Guzman pass.
The match's final set featured the highest single-set attack percentages by each team. McMurry improved to a .121 clip, while ETBU posted a .258 attacking rate. For the final point of the match, Alexis Zolan passed to teammate Bailee Moore who converted the match-clinching kill.
Overall Sanders led all players with 13 kills and also added nine digs. Guzman contributed 16 assists, eight digs and a pair of service aces, while Elonu chipped in eight kills and a half dozen total blocks. Zolan added a dozen assists and two service aces, and Jones had a team-best 15 digs.
For McMurry, Odalis Rodriguez tallied a match-high 19 digs. Morgan Thomas had 16 assists, and Katy Headrick tacked on seven kills, three total blocks, six digs and a service ace.
ETBU concludes its participation in the event with a 12:30 p.m. match on Saturday against Howard Payne University.
