Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – After playing in a match that was halted by a three-hour lightning delay, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference play. With the loss, ETBU drops to 4-10-0 overall and 3-5-0 in ASC while UMHB extends their record to 9-3-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the ASC.
UMHB's Kathryn Parker netted the first goal of the match in the 26th minute on a penalty kick. Three minutes later, Sarah Rempe fired the ball in the back of the net on an assist by Jessie Simmonds as UMHB went up 2-0. Not to be denied, Erin Miller volleyed in ETBU's only goal on an assist by Sasha Kotowych in the 30th minute. By the end of the first half, ETBU trailed 2-1, but held a 5-4 advantage on shots.
As the second half began, dark clouds formed above and nine minutes in, the first sign of lightning was spotted. At 5:18 p.m., the game resumed and UMHB possessed the ball more outshooting ETBU 10-2. In the 89th minute, UMHB's Caitlin Parr kicked in the insurance goal from Kathryn Parker to make the final score 3-1.
Stephanie Castillo led the team with three shots while Erin Miller had two shots, including one on goal. Sasha Kotowych had one shot and one assist during the match. Christina Salas made six saves while giving up three goals.
ETBU will play their final regular season home game tomorrow at Cornish Field against Concordia (TX) at 1 p.m.
