Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Competing in its final regular-season home match, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team fell by a 1-0 margin against visiting Concordia University (Texas) on a rainy Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Cornish Field. With the loss, ETBU goes to 4-11-0 overall and 3-6-0 in American Southwest Conference. Concordia improves to 4-9-1 overall and 3-4-0 in ASC matches. Before the match began, ETBU acknowledged its four seniors in a brief ceremony: Amber Pless, Samantha Rios, Sasha Kotowych and Christina Salas.
During the first half, the match's lone goal was scored late in the 14th minute. Concordia possessed the ball deep into ETBU territory, and Nicole Young maneuvered her way to near the top right of the penalty box and fired off a shot. Young's shot banged into the left post and deflected into the right side of the net for the decisive goal.
Less than a minute after the goal, ETBU's Heather Brady let off a shot at the Concordia goal, but goalkeeper Kila Hartom made a save. Later on in 39th minute, Amber Campbell's shot was stopped by Hartom for a keeper save. Under a minute later, Brady's header was stopped by Hartom as well to preserve the one-goal Concordia edge.
In the second half, ETBU managed a pair of shots on-goal. Kristi Freund fired off a shot deep into the 80th minute, and Kotowych let off a shot on-target in the 86th minute, but both resulted in keeper saves by Hartom.
For the match, ETBU held a 13-to-7 edge in shots as well as a 5-to-2 advantage in corner kicks. Salas made two saves for ETBU, while Hartom stopped seven shots in goal for Concordia.
ETBU travels for its next match to be played at Hardin-Simmons University on Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
