Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – On a day where seniors were honored and conditions were muggy, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Concordia University (TX) in their final game at Cornish Field. The loss drops ETBU to 2-12-1 overall and 2-5-1 in ASC Conference play. Concordia increases to 11-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in ASC Conference Play.
Before the match, seven seniors were honored prior to kickoff where they walked on the field with their loved ones by their side. For Justin Adams, Ryan Barham, Brett Forbus, Chandler Frazier, Pedro Guerra, Hugo Orta, and Gustavo Vasquez, Senior day was remarkable as they each received gifts with highlights and messages from the underclassmen.
Once the game got underway, Concordia took control from the start and never looked back. Despite the field looking like puddles from the rain showers earlier, Concordia's Diego Outeiral and Fabian Billings teamed up to help the Tornadoes score the first two goals of the match in the 5th and 13th minute marks. ETBU was held off the score sheet in almost all categories in the first half.
In the second half, Concordia continued to apply the pressure, but Perales kept the game at 2-0. ETBU did not get a shot attempt until the 58th minute when Antoine Bravo kicked the ball wide of the net. Chandler Frazier would get ETBU's first and only shot on goal when he hit a laser shot that met the keeper's hands. ETBU would have two more chances to score, but could not convert on either and the final stood at 2-0.
Along with Bravo and Frazier, Pablo Jaimes and Hugo Orta added a shot attempt for the team. Juan Perales ended up making eight saves while allowing two goals.
ETBU will travel to Abilene, Texas to play their last two matches of the season against Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University on Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31.
