Box Score TYLER, Texas – Facing a top-15 opponent on the road, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer finished with five shots, including one on-goal, in a 5-0 defeat to No. 12 Texas-Tyler on Saturday evening at Citizen's 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. The loss dips ETBU to 2-7 overall and 2-2 within American Southwest Conference match play, while Texas-Tyler progresses to 9-0-1 and 4-0 in ASC competition.
Texas-Tyler struck first in the ninth minute as Nikki Gordon used her right foot to find the back left of the net to move the match to a 1-0 score. Later on in the 31st minute, ETBU goalkeeper Christina Salas moved forward within the penalty box to approach a service, and Vanessa Rangel then chipped in a bouncing shot that reached the center of the goal to increase Texas-Tyler's edge to 2-0.
Stephanie Castillo had what proved to be ETBU's lone shot on-goal of the match during the 44th minute, but Texas-Tyler goalkeeper Hannah Fischer made a save. The second half featured three more Texas-Tyler goals to account for the 5-0 final score.
ETBU hosts Belhaven University (Miss.) in non-conference action on Friday at Cornish Field starting at 1 p.m.
