Box Score ABILENE, Texas – A goal in the fifth minute proved to be the difference as the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team lost to Hardin-Simmons University, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex. The loss moves ETBU to 2-13-1 overall and 2-6-1 in American Southwest Conference competition. Meanwhile, Hardin-Simmons improves to 7-5-2 overall and 4-3-1 in ASC matches.
Following a Tristan Huber corner kick, Cole Johnson finished for what turned out to be the decisive goal. During the opening half, Pedro Guerra, Pablo Jaimes and Gustavo Vasquez each had a shot on-goal for ETBU, but Hardin-Simmons goalkeeper Michael Vargas was there to stop every shot. In the second and final half, ETBU goalkeeper Juan Perales made a half dozen saves.
At the final buzzer, Hardin-Simmons held a 14-to-8 advantage in shots as well as a 7-to-3 edge in terms of corner kicks. Perales stopped six shots in goal for ETBU, while Vargas made five saves for Hardin-Simmons.
