Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Pulling out a 3-1 victory over visiting University of Texas-Tyler (12-7, 3-3) in Ornelas Gym, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team moved to 15-3 overall and 5-2 in the American Southwest Conference East Division. Adaeze Elonu set the tone for ETBU with 12 kills and five blocks. ETBU won sets one, three and four with scores of 25-12, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-18.
ETBU opened the match by hitting .375 in set one, which turned out to be the highest single-set attacking percentage by either team all night long. In contrast, Texas-Tyler hit .000 on 22 swings with a half dozen attacking errors, and that ended up as the lowest single-set hitting percentage of the night. Madison Riley and Adaeze Elonu tallied four kills apiece in the opening set for ETBU.
In spite of posting a team attacking percentage of exactly .300, ETBU dropped set two with Rebecca Floyd providing the set-clinching kill for Texas-Tyler, 25-23. During the second set, Elonu repeated with another four kills.
ETBU returned to the win column in set three, 25-16. Elonu had three kills in the set. The fourth and final set saw ETBU seal the match victory with Mallory Sanders tallying back-to-back kills to finish the night. In set four, Sanders had five kills.
In all, Elonu had a dozen kills and five total blocks, while Guzman (24) and Alexis Zolan (17) each contributed double-figure assists. Guzman also had four service aces. Rebecca Green led all players with five service aces. For Texas-Tyler, Lee finished with a match-leading 14 kills as well as four total blocks. Rebecca Floyd had 29 assists, five digs and a pair of service aces.
ETBU will travel to Mississippi for their next match on Saturday at Belhaven University (Miss.) at 1 p.m.
