SEGUIN, Texas – Playing from behind for over three quarters, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team was given their first defeat of the year from Schreiner University (1-5), 59-55. ETBU had a short lead in the first quarter, 6-2, before Schreiner went on a 9-2 run to take the lead for good. ETBU is now 4-1 on the year.

Taylee Alexander led the team with 17 points and added eight rebounds while Cekret Davis gave 12 points. Lauren Lee recorded 10 rebounds and had nine points. Kelsie Jackson had 17 points for Schreiner.

ETBU opened the game on a 6-2 run in the first three minutes of the game as Davis had four of the six points with a bucket by Alexander. In the next four minutes, ETBU only scored four points as Schreiner took an 11-10 lead on an 8-4 run. With 2:19 to play in the first quarter, Schreiner ran their lead to six points, 16-10 with a 14-4 run over five minutes.

In the second quarter ETBU would come back to the game at 20 on an 8-4 run to start off. Alexander completed a three-point play and then Ambrosia Woodard hit a three-pointer at the 6:59 mark to tie it at 20. Schreiner responded with a 13-0 run in the next five minutes and ETBU didn't make a shot until the 2:18 mark to bring the lead back down to 11, 33-22. Heading to halftime, Schreiner had a 35-26 lead.

Schreiner owned the third quarter as ETBU came within just five points once and the lead was at 10. Nobody scored in the final 2:25 as the quarter ended 45-36 in favor of Schreiner.

ETBU made one last effort in the fourth quarter pulling within five, 52-47, with 5:57 to go on a Woodard three-pointer. With under three minutes to go, ETBU came within four, twice, 55-51, and 57-53, and had the lead down to two, 57-55, with 59 seconds left on a Lee lay up after she blocked the ball earlier on the play. Schreiner grabbed an offensive rebound with 28 seconds left to extend their lead to four, 59-55. ETBU couldn't find the basket in the last 28 seconds to try and extend the game.

ETBU shot 39 percent overall but made just 20 percent from the arc and 55 percent from the line (3-of-5). Schreiner shot 35 percent and made 32 percent from the three-point line and 25 percent (3-of-12) from the foul line. ETBU had 46 rebounds to Schreiner's 42 but had 23 turnovers that turned into 20 points for Schreiner.

ETBU will play host Texas Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday in Seguin, Texas, in the Texas Lutheran University Thanksgiving Classic.
