Box Score TEXARKANA, Texas – In the fourth-consecutive road match to begin their 2015 season, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team stumbled, 2-0, at Texas A&M University—Texarkana on Thursday night at TAMUT Field. After a 0-0 tie at the half, TAMU-Texarkana netted two goals late in the second half.
The opening half of play featured a combined 10 shots, including seven by Texas A&M—Texarkana, but neither team had scored by the time the whistle was blown for intermission. In that span, ETBU's lone shot on-target came in the 30th minute by Stephanie Castillo which was grabbed by Ellie Kemins for a goalkeeper save.
As the match moved into the second half, Texas A&M—Texarkana began to gain more possession and apply more pressure on the ETBU defensive unit. Finally the scoreless tie was broken in the 70th minute. Within a minute after back-to-back goalkeeper saves by ETBU's Elizabeth Hudspeth, Fallon Keller headed in a cross from teammate Arika Elliott to give Texas A&M—Texarkana a 1-0 lead.
To conclude the night's scoring, Texas A&M—Texarkana yet again capitalized on a second-chance opportunity, this time in the 80th minute. In a short sequence, consecutive saves by Hudspeth were then followed by a rebound that Michelle Lee put into the back of the net for the 2-0 final score.
ETBU (0-4) totaled six shots, three on-goal as Amber Pless, Megan Friend and Castillo each accounted for a single shot on-target. In net, Hudspeth made nine saves.
Texas A&M—Texarkana (2-1) held a 17-to-6 shot advantage as Fallon Keller fired off five shots, including four on-goal, while Erin Almengor finished with three shots. Between the posts, Kemins stopped three shots for saves.
ETBU plays their home opener on Saturday when University of Houston—Victoria (Texas) visits Cornish Field for a 5 p.m. match.
