Box Score TYLER, Texas - The East Texas Baptist University volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory at Texas-Tyler on Tuesday night in the Herrington Center. The win ups ETBU's overall record to 10-2 and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference East Division competition and drops Texas-Tyler to 8-5 and 1-1, respectively.
Set scores for ETBU were 25-12, 25-22, 19-25 and 25-19. They hit right above the .300 mark for the match with a .303 attacking percentage as a team, while Texas-Tyler hit just .145. ETBU matched Texas-Tyler with 57 kills but needed 27 fewer swings to total that identical figure. ETBU had 11 attacking errors, and Texas-Tyler committed 37 in all.
In set one, ETBU posted a .375 attacking percentage with 13 kills and a single error, while Texas-Tyler hit .000 with 11 hitting errors. The subsequent set saw ETBU hit a match-high .382 with 14 kills and one error, and Texas-Tyler improved to a .152 attacking percentage but also committed 10 hitting errors. Texas-Tyler claimed the third set, outhitting ETBU, .244-to-.140. In what proved to be the decisive set, ETBU returned to their previous form, posting a .349 attacking percentage to earn the match victory.
Mallory Sanders had 20 kills, nine digs and four blocks, while Adaeze Elonu contributed 10 kills and four blocks. Allison Sevening had 10 kills, and Madison Riley totaled 11 kills. Reighanna Guzman chipped in 33 assists and nine digs, and Alexis Zolan had 13 assists. Hannah Jones had a match-high 19 digs. For Texas-Tyler, Rachael Harvey had 15 kills and 18 digs. Brieanne Brown had 13 kills.
ETBU plays next on Friday against Concordia University (Texas) as part of the ASC Crossover Tournament hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Match play is slated for noontime in Belton, Texas.
