Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – A second-half goal by LeTourneau University (4-3, 2-0 ASC) positioned them for the victory over East Texas Baptist University (1-6, 1-1 ASC), 2-1, in American Southwest Conference women's soccer action. It was all tied up at the half before LeTourneau took the lead in the 59th minute.
ETBU went ahead in the 31st minute courtesy of an unassisted goal by Stephanie Castillo. On a bouncing ball near the LETU goal, Castillo got ahold of the ball and blasted it through to push ETBU ahead, 1-0. LETU responded, however, almost exactly seven minutes later in the 38th minute. Keely Hayden passed upfield to Kennedy Keer, who kicked in the tying goal for a 1-1 score that held at intermission. In the opening half, the two teams had identical totals in both shots (6-to-6) and corner kicks (1-to-1).
The final half of play brought the tiebreaking goal as Hayden scored late in the 59th minute, beating ETBU goalkeeper Christina Salas for the 2-1 final score. Overall, LETU held a 12-to-8 edge in shots and a 4-to-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Salas did not record any saves as two shots were on goal for goals. LETU's Bridey Davis had three saves.
ETBU returns to action on Thursday afternoon against University of the Ozarks (Ark.) for a 1 p.m. opening kick in Clarksville, Arkansas.
