Box Score KERRVILLE, Texas – Two quick goals in the second half for Schreiner University propelled them past the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer 3-2. ETBU only produced four shots on goal.
The first half started with Schreiner's Gregg Gutierrez scoring the first goal of the game in the 19th minute. But the lead would not last long as ETBU's Justin Adams scored in the 24th minute with the assist from Brett Forbus as the teams were tied at one at the end of the half.
But in the second half, Schreiner's Cody Hollingshead scored on a penalty kick to give Schreiner a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute. Gutierrez would then head his second goal of the game in the 58th minute for a 3-1 advantage. Although ETBU's Gunner Gibson would cut the lead to 3-2 at the 68 minute mark, ETBU was unable to get the tying goal as Schreiner held on for their first win of the season.
Schreiner outshot ETBU 11-9, including a 7-5 second half advantage. ETBU's Gustavo Vasquez led the team with two shots while Justin Adams and Gunner Gibson's goals were their only shots of the game. Goalkeeper Juan Perales finished the game with three saves and allowed three goals.
ETBU will play their next match on Saturday, September 12, vs. Houston-Victoria at home.
