Box Score 2 BELTON, Texas – Moving to 3-1 on the new year and sweeping their matches through day two at the Mary Hardin-Baylor Invitational, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball won both matches, 3-1. ETBU defeated Whitman College and then held off Millsaps College.
In its first match, ETBU bested Whitman College (Wash.) in four sets, 25-19, 25-18, 14-25, 25-19.
ETBU's Mallory Sanders had a match-best 14 kills to go along with 17 digs, while Allison Sevening contributed 10 kills. Morgan Rupp chipped in 14 digs, and Hannah Jones had 18 digs. Reighanna Guzman totaled 23 assists and nine digs while Elyse Shaw had a dozen assists.
For Whitman, Shae Kanakaole finished the match with 13 kills and nine digs.
Against Millsaps, ETBU also prevailed by a 3-1 margin, 21-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-14, taking the final three sets of the match. .
ETBU's Abby Weaver had 10 kills while Sanders totaled 13 kills and 14 digs. Kayla Green totaled 14 assists and 22 digs and Morgan Rupp had 15 digs. Bailee Moore chipped in eight kills and Hannah Jones had 29 digs. Adaeze Elonu finished the match with 11 kills and Guzman had 22 assists.
Millsaps had five different players with at least 10 digs, led by Lexus Andrews with 22.
ETBU plays next on Friday against Southwestern University (Texas) as part of the Austin College Invitational. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT in Sherman, Texas.
