Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – In the 'Battle of the Blues', the East Texas Baptist University volleyball came out on top of the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets in a three set sweep, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18). It was a packed house tonight in Ornelas Gymnasium as ETBU improved to 5-9 overall, and 3-4 in American Southwest Conference Action. LETU drops to 7-16 on the season, and 0-7 in ASC play.
ETBU won a back and forth first set 25-21. In the second set, ETBU controlled LETU to a 25-19 set win. LETU was winning the third set 10-7, before ETBU rallied to take control, and put it away at the end to win 25-18 to complete the sweep.
LETU was led by Dolores Henson and Skylar Horan with five kills each. Savanna Stutts, Elyse Wright, and Mikayla Thomas each added four kills for LETU. Nicole Mosely and Korissa White led LETU with nine and eight assists respectively. Wright, White, and Kelsie Jeffries added six digs to lead LETU's defense.
ETBU was led offensively by Mallory Sanders who had 14 kills. Paige Miller and Britni Mosher pitched in eight kills of their own to give ETBU a balanced attack. Allison Sevening and Alexis Contos added five kills and four kills to round out the attack for ETBU. Kayla Green contributed 17 assists and 10 digs for another double-double on the season. Elyse Shaw added 12 assists and eight digs of her own. Morgan Rupp and Krysten Reed added nine digs each for ETBU. Reed led ETBU with three service aces.
With her service ace tonight, Sanders moves into sole possession of fourth All-Time in the history of ETBU volleyball with 133 career service aces.
ETBU returns to action with the ASC Crossover Tournament in Richardson, Texas on the campus of University of Texas Dallas. The matches for ETBU will start on Friday at 2:30 p.m. against Mary Hardin-Baylor and at 7:00 p.m. against Howard Payne University. The tournament will conclude on Saturday with a match against Sul Ross State University at 3:00 p.m.
