Box Score 2 RICHARDSON, Texas – In the beginning match of the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament in Richardson, Texas, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team fell to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in three sets (27-25, 25-22, and 25-17). ETBU falls to 5-10 overall, and 3-5 in ASC play while UMHB improves to 15-5 overall and 9-2 in ASC play.
Abby Voskuil led UMHB with 16 kills and Maddie Frerich added 14 kills of her own. Natasha Evans led UMHB with 40 assists. Four different Crusaders had double-digit digs led by Haleigh Evans with 20, Voskuil and Miranda Klein had 13, and Natasha Evans finished with 11. UMHB hit .163 as ateam in the match.
ETBU was led offensively by Mallory Sanders with 15 kills and 15 digs. Kayla Green had 21 assists and Elyse Shaw added 11 assists and 10 digs. Morgan Rupp led ETBU with 17 digs. ETBU hit .121 as a team in the contest.
In the second match tonight, ETBU squared off against Howard Payne University. ETBU was able to sweep the Yellow Jackets 25-14, 25-23, and 25-14. ETBU improves to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in ASC play. HPU drops to 6-12 overall and 3-7 in ASC play.
ETBU limited HPU to a .056 hitting percentage and only 27 total kills. HPU was led offensively by Shelbie Harry and Zhartezia Bradley with eight kills each. Cheyanne Lovelady led HPU with 19 assists. Briana Williams led with nine digs, and Lovelady and Analisa Anzaldua had eight digs each.
ETBU hit .311 as a team, led by Sanders who had a match high 18 kills for the Tigers. Madison Riley pitched in 12 kills of her own. Rupp led ETBU with 10 digs, followed by Krysten Reed with nine, Sanders and Shaw each added eight. Green and Shaw led ETBU with 18 assists and 14 assists respectively.
ETBU returns to the floor tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the ASC Crossover Tournament against the Sul Ross State University Lobos.
