Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – It was a celebration before and after the match for the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team as they honored the seniors on the team by sweeping Belhaven University 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, and 25-22). Belhaven falls to 8-16 overall while ETBU improves to 8-11 overall, and 6-6 in American Southwest Conference play.
ETBU controlled the match from the opening set, cruising in the first set to win 25-20. Belhaven pushed ETBU to extra points in the second frame, but ETBU countered and took the second set 26-24. ETBU erupted in the third set to lead 17-7, but a Belhaven rally wasn't enough as ETBU closed out the match with a 25-22 third set win.
Belhaven was led by Jackie Gunderson with nine kills, Annelle Anderson and Blaykleigh Smythe had seven kills each. Kelly Aholt led Belhaven with 33 assists. Abbey Herman had 14 digs and Gunderson had 13 digs. Belhaven hit .162 as a team in the contest and had nine blocks.
Madison Riley set a new career high with 14 kills in the match, followed by Mallory Sanders with 11 kills. Elyse Shaw had 21 assists and Kayla Green had 14 assists. Four different Tigers had double-digit digs in the match. Sanders had 15 to give her a double-double, Lauren Jarrell had 14, Morgan Rupp added 10 and Shaw rounds off with 10 as well for a double-double. ETBU hit .200 as a team and had five blocks as a team.
This was the final home match for ETBU seniors Kayla Green, Mallory Sanders, and Morgan Rupp. ETBU has clinched a spot in the ASC tournament which will take place in October. ETBU will return to action next Tuesday for their final ASC match versus LeTourneau University, and then will travel to Seguin for the Texas Lutheran Bulldog tournament to close out the regular season.
