#TIGERSWIN: ETBU Clinches #6 Seed in ASC Tournament

Box Score

MARSHALL, Texas – In a must win match to clinch an American Southwest Conference Tournament bid, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team rose to the challenge in a 1-0 win over McMurry University on 'Senior Night' at Cornish Field. McMurry drops to 1-15 overall and 1-9 in ASC play. ETBU clinched the six seed in the ASC tournament and improve to 6-6-4 overall, and 4-4-2 in ASC play.

After a back-and-forth first half, ETBU had control of most of the time possession deep in the McMurry side of the field but could not find the back of the net. ETBU struck early in the second half on a nice cross from Megan Friend to Heather Brady to notch the game-winning goal. Karrigan Falber earned the shutout win, the sixth of the season for ETBU.

ETBU outshot McMurry 16-1 in the first half, and 12-0 in the second half. McMurry's Jordyn Gregory allowed one goal and saved 11 shots. ETBU won 12 corner kicks compared to 0 for McMurry. Cristen Lumbreras mustered up the lone shot for McMurry.

Erin Miller has eight shots on the day with two shots on goal. Emilee Laxson, Kendall Vogt, Alexis Smith, and Brady each had three shots in the contest. Brady scored her fourth goal of the season to tie Miller and Smith for the team lead. Friend's third assist of the season ties her for the team lead with Brady and Miller.

“It was a complete team effort tonight. We had a lot of girls contribute, and it was a special day to honor our five seniors. I was really proud of how they competed and how they competed for one another. We would have liked to score more, but I am happy with a 1-0 win. It is our sixth shutout of the year, and we continue to play well at home. I could not be happier for these girls,” said head coach Erik Solberg after the win over McMurry.

This is the fifth appearance in the past six seasons in the ASC Tournament for ETBU. ETBU returns to action tomorrow night versus #11 Hardin-Simmons University for the regular season finale. The match will be played at 4:00 p.m. at Cornish Field.
