RECAP: ETBU Drops Regular Season Finale 4-0 to HSU

Box Score

MARSHALL, Texas – Already having clinched the #6 seed in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 4-0 loss to #11 Hardin-Simmons University. HSU improved to 16-1 overall and to 11-0 in ASC play. ETBU drops to 6-7-4 overall and to 4-5-2 in ASC play.

HSU got things going early in the first half with three goals by conference leader Kami Jones. Jones scored in the 13th minute, 20th minute, and 24th minute to give HSU an early lead. ETBU had two shots that were saved midway through the first period, and one that glanced off the cross bar that could have put them back into the contest.

HSU outshot ETBU 19-4 in the contest with eight shots on goal compared to two for ETBU. Jones, Jordan Lara, Olivia Hartman, and Haylee Foster each had three shots in the contest. Josey Meyer, Kendell Groom, and Taylor Bernal each had an assist for the Cowgirls. Foster notched the fourth goal in the 75th minute to cap off scoring.

Nathalia Lomax led ETBU with two shots and one shot on goal. Kalynn Hudman and Kendall Vogt had the other shots in the match for ETBU, with Vogt striking the other shot on goal. Karrigan Falber picked up the loss allowing four goals and saving four attempts.

“Full credit to Hardin-Simmons, they showed their class and its apparent why they are nationally ranked. I am very proud of how my team competed and battled from whistle to whistle. This weekend was a good culmination of all of our work. We lost six fewer games than a year ago, and that is something to be proud of. We cannot wait for the conference tournament on Tuesday,” said head coach Erik Solberg after the match.

ETBU returns to action next Tuesday in Tyler for the first round of the ASC Tournament. The winner of that will move on to the final four in the ASC Championship in Abilene.
