Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – How 'sweep' it is for the East Texas Baptist University women's volleyball team as they swept the season series against their rival, University of Texas-Tyler, tonight with a 3-1 victory. Earlier this season, ETBU swept UT-Tyler in three sets in Marshall. ETBU improves to 4-9 overall and 3-4 in American Southwest Conference play while UT-Tyler drops to 12-5 and 3-4 in ASC play.
ETBU lost the first set to UT-Tyler 20-25, before rebounding and making a statement in the second set 25-14. ETBU won a close third set as it was forced into extra points, 27-25. UT-Tyler cut down an eight point lead in the fourth set by rallying off six straight points, but ETBU closed out the match 25-20 to move to 2-0 agaisnt UT-Tyler this season.
ETBU had a very balanced approach to tonight's match as four different Tigers were in double-digits in kills. ETBU was led by Mallory Sanders with a match high 18 kills, Abby Weaver and Britni Mosher had 12 kills, and Madison Riley had 11 kills. Elyse Shaw set a new personal best with 26 assists followed by Kayla Green who had 25 of her own. Morgan Rupp led ETBU with 20 digs, and Sanders and Shaw pitched in 14 digs and 13 digs respectively for another season double-double. ETBU hit .222 on the match and had 14 blocks as a team.
UT-Tyler was led offensively by Jordan Debus who had 17 kills, followed by Brieanne Brown with nine for the Patriots. Rebecca Floyd had a match high 29 assists and Reghanna Guzman added 12 assists of her own. Emily Robison had 18 digs, Floyd had 12 digs for a double-double, and Kaitlyn Budisalovich contributed 11 digs of her own. UT-Tyler hit .188 as a team and had seven blocks a team.
ETBU will return to action in one week with a home match versus LeTourneau University on October 11th at 7:00 p.m. This will be the second of four home matches on the year for ETBU. ETBU will then travel to another ASC Crossover Tournament that weekend in Richardson, Texas starting October 14th.
