Box Score PINEVILLE, Louisiana – Beginning the first of two road trips over fall break, the East Texas Baptist University Tigers used a strong second half in which they scored five goals in route to a 6-0 shutout of Louisiana College. This win gives ETBU a 5-2-3 record with a 3-1-1 record in conference play.
Leading the way for ETBU was Alexis Smith, who scored a hat trick to for the Tigers. Heather Brady also contributed with a goal and two assists while Kendall Vogt (one assist) and Emilee Laxson added a goal as well. Overall, ETBU outshot LC 33-2 with 14 in the first half and 19 in the second. ETBU also had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
For the first 40 minutes of the game, neither team could find the back of the net. At the 42nd minute, Smith netted a cross from the left side via assist by Brady. Smith would start the second half with a goal off the left foot with an assist to Erin Miller in the 50th minute. Miller would later set up another assist to Brady, who netted the ball in the 56th minute. Six minutes later, Vogt rebounded a shot and placed it in the net making the score 4-0. Vogt would then set up the hat trick goal by Smith in the 75th minute before Laxson completed the scoring in the 81st minute.
"Our team really showed our class tonight, despite a slow start, “ said Coach Solberg. “It was a well earned, deserved and needed three points on the road. We were ruthless and relentless in the attack and played some really good soccer in the second half. I'm really proud of Alexis Smith for getting a hat trick and our defense earning our fourth overall and second consecutive clean sheet. It was a complete team effort and I'm really happy with the result and hope we can carry this momentum onto Saturday and beyond."
ETBU will continue their road trip to Jackson, Mississippi to face off with Belhaven this Saturday. Kickoff starts at 1:00 pm.
