Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – After conceding a goal late in the first half, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team could not rally to tie the game as the Belhaven University Blazers secured a 1-0 victory over ETBU. Belhaven improves to 4-6-1, and ETBU falls to 7-5 on the year and remains 2-2 in American Southwest Conference play.
After a nearly scoreless first half, Belhaven scored in the final minute before halftime on a goal from Ryan Thomas, which would be the only goal of the contest. Both ETBU and Belhaven would go back in forth all game long as they were pretty much even throughout the match. Belhaven outshot ETBU 9-7, but both teams tallied four shots on goal.
ETBU was led by seven different Tigers who shot the ball. David Jackson, Aaron Lopez, Daniel Rutter, and Matthew Argenbright each notched a shot on goal for ETBU. Bryant Botello tallied three saves, but was given the loss in the net for ETBU.
Belhaven was led offensively by Thomas who had four of the nine shots, and two of the four shots on goal. Josh Gates was awarded the win in the net for Belhaven, as he had four saves on the night.
ETBU finished 1-1 on their two state road trip through Louisiana and Mississippi. ETBU will return to action at Cornish Field next weekend versus Howard Payne University and University of Texas at Dallas. The matches will follow the women's games, and start around 7::30 p.m.
