Box Score SHERMAN, Texas – After a slow start in the first and third quarters, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball teams could not complete the comeback against Austin College as they fell on the road, 89-79. ETBU had a big fourth quarter, but fell just shy of getting back into the game.
ETBU scored 12 points in the opening frame compared to 27 by Austin College. ETBU reduced the deficit at the break to nine points, 37-46. Austin College extended the lead further in the third quarter to make it 70-52 entering the final frame. ETBU outscored Austin College by eight in the fourth quarter, but ended up falling in their first road game of the season.
Hannah Holt led the way for ETBU with 18 points, Malaisia Chisolm and Sade' Murrell added 12 points each, and Lauren Lee and Delia Hopkins added 10 points each. Holt led the team with seven rebounds, and Chisolm and Murrell each had five in the contest. Chisolm also led ETBU with four assists in the contest.
ETBU shot 28-62 from the field, and had 39 rebounds as a team. ETBU knocked down eight three point field goals as a team, led by Holt with three, and Shayla Hubbard with two. ETBU was 15-19 from the free throw line, which is 78.9%, a new season high.
Austin College was led by Kendra Rainey with 20 points. Bryce Frank recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Austin College made 25-39 from the free throw line, and had 49 rebounds in the game.
ETBU returns to action this weekend at the Southwestern University Classic in Georgetown. On Saturday, ETBU will play host Southwestern at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, ETBU will take on Texas Lutheran University at 2:00 p.m.
