Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas – In their first match of the Southwestern University Classic, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team could not complete the comeback against Southwestern University, as they fell, 67-66. ETBU had a stronger offensive second half but could not overcome the first half deficit.
After falling behind in the first half 35-28, ETBU erupted for 21 points in the third quarter to bring the game within four points. ETBU outscored Southwestern 16-14 in the fourth quarter, but ended up falling to the Pirates to fall to 0-3 to start the season.
Hannah Holt led the way with a career high 21 points. Holt is now averaging 17.3 points per game through her first three games of her career. Lauren Lee finished one point shy of her second double-double of the season, adding nine points and 10 rebounds. Malaisia Chisolm, Delia Hopkins, and Sade' Murrell added seven points each.
ETBU was 19-68 from the field to shoot 27.9% in the game. ETBU was outrebounded 57-41 in the game, but won the turnover battle 28-18. ETBU shot 77.4% from the free throw line, 24-31, compared to 17-31 from Southwestern.
Southwestern was led by Kelsey Faykus with 14 points, and Tori Carraway had 11 points. Carraway and Faykus each had eight rebounds to lead the team.
ETBU will return to action tomorrow against Texas Lutheran at 2:00 p.m. TLU is 2-2 on the season after falling to Concordia University today 67-53.
